WHAT SAFETY STANDARDS DOES THE HELMET MEET?

Safety is at the heart of everything we develop.
The YELM Hybrid Helmet 2.0 is designed to help manage both angled impacts and rotational forces, forces that can occur in a fall and may contribute to concussion. In Folksam’s independent 2026 equestrian helmet test, the YELM Hybrid Helmet 2.0 was one of only four helmets out of 15 to receive the highest grade and Folksam’s “Bra val” (Good Choice) label. From the test results:

  • The Hybrid Helmet 2.0 scored 14% better than the average helmet in the test. Folksam’s “Bra val” label requires a result at least 10% better than the median.
  • In the three angled impact tests, only six of the 15 helmets stayed below a 50% estimated risk of concussion in every test. The Hybrid Helmet 2.0 was one of them.
  • Helmets with rotational protection generally produced lower brain loading, and therefore a lower estimated risk of concussion, than helmets without it.
  • Between the best and the worst performing helmet in the test, the estimated risk of concussion differed by up to eight times.
  • A higher price does not guarantee better protection. The helmets awarded “Bra val” averaged around SEK 2,900, against SEK 3,780 for the test as a whole.

The helmet has been tested and approved to both EN 1384:2023, the most common standard in Europe, and ASTM F1163-23, the North American standard for testing.

HOW IS THIS HELMET DIFFERENT FROM OTHER HELMETS ON THE MARKET?

We have designed the smartest helmet on the market. Through technical innovation we have ensured low weight, high safety, comfort and adaptability.

  • MIPS system for optimal protection against rotational force in angled impacts
  • Adjustable ventilation system, choose how much airflow you need depending on weather conditions
  • Flexible fit adjustment for maximum comfort and the ability to grow with the helmet
  • Magnetic safety clasp, fasten your helmet with one hand
  • Modular system, add exactly the features you need for your riding: magnetic visor for enhanced contrast or sunshine, headlight to see and be seen, crash sensor for rapid assistance in case of an accident, and GoPro adapter for secure camera mounting

HOW SHOULD THE HELMET FIT?

The helmet should sit firmly and comfortably around the head without causing pressure. It should not be able to move forwards, backwards, or sideways when you move your head.

HOW DO I CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE?

Measure the circumference of your head at the widest horizontal point and compare with our size guide. The helmet offers excellent adjustment options within the stated size range.

WHAT DOES MIPS MEAN?

Many riding helmets only protect against linear force, such as when a helmet strikes the ground straight on. But any fall from a moving horse will involve an angled impact that causes rotational movement, which can strain the brain and lead to serious injury.

Our helmet is built with the MIPS rotational protection system to minimise this type of injury. The MIPS system reduces rotational movement through a low-friction layer inside the helmet that allows multi-directional movement of 10–15 mm upon angled impacts. The layer is specifically designed to reduce rotational force.

WHAT WE MEAN BY A MODULAR SYSTEM?

The modular system allows you to add exactly the features you need for your riding:

  • Magnetic visor for enhanced contrast or sunlight
  • Headlight to see and be seen
  • Crash sensor to enable rapid assistance in case of an emergency
  • GoPro camera adapter for secure camera mounting
